Wang Wang, an eight-year-old German Shepherd, had served as a sniffer dog at a security checkpoint in Xichuan, Henan Province, central China. After retiring in June 2019, he found a forever home where he could spend the rest of his days.
Last month, Wang Wang’s old handler, a police officer, decided to surprise his furry companion by visiting him during patrol near Wang Wang’s house. A video, recently posted on the Xichuan police Douyin account (the Chinese equivalent of TikTok), captured the heartwarming moment of the reunion.
As soon as Wang Wang heard his former handler’s call, he darted out of the front door and into the arms of his beloved companion. Wang Wang showered him with licks and tears, staying close by his side.
Even when it was time for the patrol to return to their car, Wang Wang refused to let them leave, remaining steadfastly beside his manager. The Xichuan police responded, explaining that while police dogs receive proper care at training centers, the officers are unable to dedicate their time to playing and exercising with retired dogs. It was believed that the dogs would be better off receiving individual attention and care in a home environment.
