In May 2018, a woman from Fayetteville, Georgia, had the surprise of her life after finding Reese, a dachshund mix, abandoned on her doorstep. The little dog aged 13 years old was left their intentionally and with a sad handwritten note.

I hope whoever gets this [will] please take care of my dog. I love her so much, but I don’t have time for her … I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I have four kids and no time for her.
Luckily for Reese, the person she was dropped off with lives with dogs, so she didn’t want to leave the little dog alone on the street. However, she could not adopt Reese herself. She wrote a post about the dog in a private Facebook group, and someone taggedRoyal Animal Refuge, a local rescue group and shelter.

Mariel Weigand, shelter director for Royal Animal Refuge, told The Dodo:
When we heard about it, obviously we were upset. But at the same time, we thought, ‘Maybe they just didn’t know what to do or who to turn to. One of our animal control facilities does not take surrenders, so it makes it very hard when you can’t find a rescue, and you don’t have anywhere to go.
Mariel entrusted Reese to one of her most active foster family volunteers, Robyn Klein. The goal was for Robyn to take care of the little dog until the shelter found her a permanent family.

But it soon became clear that the shelter would not have to search long to find an adoptive family for Reese.
[Robin’s] mom is an older lady … and she just recently lost her baby [dog] a few months ago, so she stepped up to foster. Robyn said her mom is so in love with Reese already.

Robyn’s mother couldn’t resist the little Dachshund’s love of life and decided to become her new owner.A very happy ending for the little dog and her new mom as well as the beginning of a new life thanks to the kind work of many people.
