Brighe’s health was obvious to the rescue crew because she had not been a stray on her own for an extended period of time. Someone who knew what they were doing had deliberately starved her.
To avoid organ failure, her refeeding has to be done excruciatingly slowly. Brighe, on the other hand, battled valiantly, and after many days in the hospital, she was able to eat on her own.
Brighe made progress with each passing day. She gained weight and started walking on her own. Brighe’s foster family gave her the love and care she needed to heal, and her beautiful personality and forgiving spirit slowly began to peek through.
Then came the day Brighe had been looking forward to: the day she could go home. She adjusted nicely to her foster home, playing with toys and eating every four hours. Her progress was nothing short of astounding, and she was quickly up to daily walks and working on her leash etiquette.
But Brighe’s adventure was far from ended. She was ultimately adopted by a loving family who accepted her with open arms after 62 days of recuperation. Brighe now has a new sibling and parents who are overjoyed to welcome her into their family.
Brighe continues to demonstrate her strength and tenacity with each new day, demonstrating that even after facing unspeakable evil, love and forgiveness can triumph. Brighe’s story serves as a reminder that every dog deserves a shot at a happy and healthy life, and that with the proper care and support, even the most damaged hearts can heal and flourish.
