A stray dog, weak and weary, seemed to have resigned himself to a lonely fate on a scorching summer day. Thankfully, a call to Stray Rescue of St. Louis sparked a chain of events that would change his life forever.
When Donna Lochmann, the organization’s chief life saving officer, received a picture of the pup slumped on a hot sidewalk, she knew immediate action was necessary. Despite initial difficulty locating him, Lochmann’s persistence paid off when she spotted him lying listlessly in a cool stream, a desperate attempt to escape the heat.
The image of the dog, utterly devoid of energy and hope, tugged at Lochmann’s heartstrings. “There’s no way I’m leaving this dog here,” she declared, determined to offer him a lifeline.
Fortunately, the dog, later named Curby, was more than receptive to help. He willingly walked towards Lochmann’s jeep, a testament to his trust and yearning for a better life. Relief washed over Lochmann as Curby settled comfortably in the cool embrace of the air conditioning, a stark contrast to the harsh reality he had just endured.
Curby’s journey to recovery continued at a loving foster home. A couple, touched by his story, couldn’t bear the thought of him languishing in a shelter. They quickly scooped him up, providing him with a safe haven filled with love and companionship.
Curby flourished in his new environment. He gained weight, his playful personality blossomed, and he found comfort in his canine sibling. “His foster parents are absolutely in love with him,” Lochmann reported. “He turned out to be the sweetest boy ever.”
Curby’s story serves as a heartwarming reminder of the power of kindness and the resilience of the animal spirit. From the brink of despair, he found a loving family and a second chance at happiness.
