From Roadside to Recovery: Paralyzed Dog Gets Second Chance with Rescue

Barking Back at Fate: Paralyzed Pup Shows Will to Live After Christmas Day Rescue

David Loop, a man dedicated to rescuing abandoned animals through his organization Sierra Pacific Furbabies, witnessed a Christmas miracle on Rubidoux Boulevard. While their focus is on cats and kittens, they’ve never turned away a dog in need.

As Loop exited the freeway on Christmas Day, a sight stopped him in his tracks. Curled up by the side of the road, he mistook a black Labrador for deceased. But a flicker of movement revealed a spark of life – the dog, later named Shiloh, was still alive.

Loop believes Shiloh, likely hit by a car, had been there for days. “I swear… I thought it was a deceased dog,” he said, describing the initial scene. The expectation of finding a lifeless body was shattered when Shiloh stirred and even managed a bark.

“I couldn’t believe it when he took a breath,” Loop said, overwhelmed by the unexpected discovery. “This poor baby, I don’t know how long he was on the side of the freeway.”

Determined to help, Loop rushed Shiloh to an emergency vet with a friend. There, a grim reality emerged – Shiloh was paralyzed, and even had swallowed bones.

However, within a few days, the dedicated veterinarians managed to get Shiloh walking again, albeit on his front legs only. Loop describes him as an “amazing little doggy” with a powerful will to live.

Shiloh’s story highlights the dedication of rescue organizations like Sierra Pacific Furbabies, and the extraordinary resilience animals can possess. From a desperate situation on the side of the road, Shiloh found hope and a second chance, thanks to a man with a big heart and a mission to help all furry friends in need.
