It is unbelievable how some people can be cruel to animals, but this is a sad reality today.

Unfortunately, one dog fell victim to one of these cruel humans after a youth set the dog’s head on fire, leaving the animal with life-threatening injuries.

The dog’s name is Buddy, and this is his story.

Buddy was found with severe burns on his face and an electrical cord tied around his neck.

His wounds were too grave that his vision could have been compromised.

The dog was hobbling and was in pure agony when he was finally found and rescued along the roads of Senotobia, Mississippi.

It was lucky that people were eager to help the poor animal so he could live a normal life once more and hopefully, recover his vision.

The dog’s injuries were not superficial, and it took doctors from the Mississippi State Veterinary Hospital days to complete his treatment, with the hope that the dog would regain his sight after the recovery period.

They had to do skin grafts for Buddy to heal because he had suffered third-degree burns and even 4th-degree burns.

His situation was dire, and doctors were fervently hoping they were not too late and the treatment would work for the animal.

Buddy had to wear tight bandages and cover his eyes during the time he was recovering.

The poor pup was enduring the fact that he could not see and was slowly gaining back his health for the next four months after his rescue.

It was something that had to be done to expedite his healing.

“Without the bandages, Buddy would be pawing and rubbing his face and eyes to get some relief,” Sandy Williams, Founder and Director of Tunica Humane Society explained. “That could cause devastating damage to all the good that has been done so far. So for now, Buddy’s face has to remain covered.”

Four months after his rescue, the doctors finally decided it was time to remove the bandages.

Because of the dog’s remarkable story of survival, the people in the hospital and in the Tunica Humane Society have grown excited for the pup to see light finally.

The bandages were removed after four, long, dark months for the dog, and everyone is happy for his health’s improvement.

The skin graft on his face was still pink, but the dog’s vision was recovered.

Removing the dog’s bandage was an emotional moment, and people were in awe of how much a pup could endure.

Buddy finally saw light, and it was obvious that he still had months before his total recovery, but doctors are hopeful for him.

“The new skin is very pink,” Williams posted on Facebook. “He may never grow fur back where he had the skin grafts. We are counting the days until we can see Buddy’s whole face with or without fur. He is going to be perfect either way.”

It has been a rough journey for Buddy, but after his bandages were taken away, the pain and the horror of what he had to go through seemed almost untraceable.

He plays fetch and is very active, so he had to wear a head cone.

It was already a significant improvement compared to his bandages.

What the investigation found out about Buddy’s attacker was a fact that truly saddened many.

The Tate County Sheriff’s Office discovered that a 12-year-old was behind the vicious attack.

The police department got a confession from the child, whose age prevented them from criminally charging him for his act.

Buddy’s survival and strength are inspiring, but we hope this kind of animal cruelty ends in him.
