Many dogs yearn for a loving family, but sadly, they end up in shelters. This was the case for Bubba Jr., a charming Pitbull who resided at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Montana for 93 long days.
The shelter, with a remarkable 98% adoption rate, cares deeply about finding forever homes for all their animals. But for some, like Bubba Jr., the wait can be long.
Part of Bubba Jr.’s challenge was breed prejudice. Despite his goofy grin and affectionate personality, negative stereotypes surrounding Pitbulls deterred potential adopters. Landlord restrictions on Pitbulls further limited his options.
Bubba Jr., however, remained optimistic. The shelter staff described him as a “giant meathead lovable dog” who showered everyone with kisses and cuddles. He craved human companionship, whether it was walks, movie nights, or simply mastering the art of cuddling.
Among the shelter volunteers, Bubba Jr. developed a special bond with one particular person. This volunteer saw past the breed label and recognized Bubba Jr.’s loving heart. After 93 days of waiting, this volunteer decided to make Bubba Jr.’s dream come true – adoption day!
The shelter’s Facebook post celebrating Bubba Jr.’s adoption went viral. They even shared a heartwarming “diary entry” from Bubba Jr.’s perspective:
“Dear Diary, It’s day 5 in my new home and boy are things different… I love my new life in this place called “home”. Every day I wake up with my Favorite Volunteer and everyday is the best day ever!”
Bubba Jr.’s story is a testament to the power of shelter volunteers and the importance of looking beyond breed stereotypes. It’s a reminder that countless dogs wait patiently for a chance at love. So, if you’re considering adding a furry friend to your family, consider visiting your local shelter. You might just become someone’s favorite volunteer and change a life forever.
