Every year, we hear far too many stories about dogs who have been left in hot cars. Dogs are extremely susceptible to heat stroke, but far too many owners continue to leave them in hot, confined vehicles, causing misery and even death.
One of the more disturbing examples occurred last summer, when a husky dog was discovered in a hot car outside a Las Vegas casino with her lips taped shut.
But, happily, the dog survived the trauma, and she’s now living her best life months later.
On July 20, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a 3-month-old husky dog left locked in an SUV in the Bellagio casino parking lot.
The unfortunate dog’s mouth had been taped shut, and temperatures had reached 113 degrees. Leaving a dog in a car in any weather may be stressful, so think how terrifying it must have been for the husky in such extreme heat – her life was in great risk.
According to authorities, the dog had been in there for two hours while the owner was inside gaming, with no air conditioning, food, or water.
The dog was successfully extracted from the car’s sunroof by the LVMPD. The dog was discovered salivating and unable to breathe, according to bodycam footage supplied by the department.
Raul Carbajal, 50, the owner, was detained for wilful and malicious animal mistreatment.
While the case was upsetting, the poor animal’s life quickly improved. The Las Vegas-based charity The Animal Foundation revealed that the husky, now named Duchess, has been adopted just weeks after she was rescued!
The shelter just posted another update, revealing that Duchess has been living her best life since her rescue.
“She lives with a wonderful family who adores her,” wrote Animal Foundation. “She sneaks into the children’s beds and enjoys hanging out with her new fur siblings.”
Duchess’ prior owner was abusive and neglectful to her, but things couldn’t be more different with her new family. Duchess has toured the country, visiting Nevada, California, and Arizona.
And, having been rescued from that searing hot automobile, Duchess now enjoys the cold: she is said to never miss an opportunity to frolic in the snow.
“Talk about a good life,” stated the Animal Foundation.
We’re so thrilled that things have turned out so well for Duchess — she was rescued from a horrible situation and ended up in a wonderfully perfect new home.
Thank you for showering this sweet dog with love! Please spread the word about this wonderful story
